Dostum SMS — Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains how the Dostum SMS Android app handles information. Dostum SMS is a personal cross-device SMS synchronisation tool published by Dostum Amigo SLU.
1. Who we are
The Dostum SMS app is published by Dostum Amigo SLU — full legal name DOSTUM AMIGO SOCIEDAD DE RESPONSABILIDAD LIMITADA, a company registered in Spain. Our registered address is Calle Princesa Teguise (Pto. del Carmen) 27, 35572 Tías, Las Palmas, Spain. Our CIF/Tax ID is B6188499. For privacy-related questions you can write to privacy@dostumamigo.com.
2. What Dostum SMS is
Dostum SMS is a personal cross-device SMS synchronisation tool. You install it on an Android phone you personally own, choose the email inbox where you want your texts to land, and from then on each incoming SMS arrives in that inbox within seconds. The app exists so that you can read your own text messages from any device where you check email — a laptop, a tablet, a second phone you own — without carrying the SMS-receiving phone around with you.
This policy covers the Dostum SMS Android application only. The general Dostum Amigo company privacy policy — covering our website, IT services and software projects — is published at /privacy-policy/. Where the two policies overlap, the app-specific terms below apply to the app.
3. What we collect
- The email address you use to sign in (for account management).
- The email address you configure as your sync destination (so we know where to deliver each message).
- The body, sender, and timestamp of incoming SMS messages, at the moment they arrive on the phone.
- A randomly-generated local device identifier, so your account can distinguish one of your own devices from another.
- Operational diagnostics like battery level and network type, used only to verify delivery reliability.
4. What we do NOT collect
- The
READ_SMSpermission. We never request it. We never query Android's stored SMS history. - Your contacts, location, microphone, camera, photos, or call log.
- Your existing or outgoing SMS — only incoming, at arrival time.
5. Android permissions used
Dostum SMS requests only the permissions needed for cross-device sync to work:
RECEIVE_SMS— used to detect incoming SMS messages as they arrive on the phone, so the body can be synced to your chosen email inbox. Without this permission the app cannot know that a message has arrived. We do not useREAD_SMSand do not query Android's stored SMS history.- Internet access — used only to deliver each incoming message to the email address you configured.
Permissions are requested at first use and can be revoked at any time in your Android system settings. Revoking SMS permission disables sync.
6. How data is used and shared
Each incoming SMS body is delivered to the email address you configure on the phone. Your email provider — Gmail, Outlook, your work email, your own domain, whatever you choose — is the only third party that ever sees the message contents. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, we do not use it for analytics, and we do not use it to train AI models.
We may use a small number of standard third-party services for purposes such as crash reporting and app distribution (for example, Google Play). These providers handle limited technical data under their own terms.
7. Data retention
- SMS body: retained on our delivery server only as long as needed for delivery. Purged within 24 hours of successful delivery. Failed deliveries are retained for 7 days for retry and support, then deleted.
- Metadata (sender, timestamp, delivery status): kept in your account's history view until you delete the account.
- Encryption: TLS in transit (HTTPS, STARTTLS). Server-side data is encrypted at rest by our managed database provider.
8. Your control
- Toggle email sync off at any time from inside the app.
- Sign out to stop all syncing to your Dostum account.
- Revoke the SMS permission from Android Settings → Apps → Dostum SMS → Permissions.
- Delete your account and all associated data — see /apps/sms-forwarder/delete-account/ for instructions.
9. Use only on your own phone
Dostum SMS is designed for personal use on a phone you personally own. Install Dostum SMS only on a phone you own, and only set the sync destination to an email address you personally control. Scammers exploit shared SMS codes to take over bank, email, and messaging accounts — never install this app on someone else's phone, and never set the destination email to an address you do not trust.
10. Children
Dostum SMS is not directed at children. The app is intended for users old enough to manage their own SMS messages and their own email account.
11. Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. To exercise these rights with respect to any data we hold about you in connection with Dostum SMS, contact privacy@dostumamigo.com.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Dostum SMS after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
